55 MW of Bac-Man Geothermal are back online
Unit 1 from the Bacon-Manito (Bac-Man) geothermal plants in the Philippines is back online and Unit 2 is expected to go back online with new equipment on October.
The Bacon-Manito (Bac-Man) geothermal plants in the Bicol Region have resumed operations after sustaining damage from Typhoon Glenda, adding 55 megawatts (MW) to the Luzon grid, Energy Development Corp. said in a disclosure Tuesday.
Bacman’s Units 1 and 2 went on unplanned outage last July 15 during the storm, EDC said.
“The typhoon-damaged cooling tower is now operational and Unit 1 has attained its rated load of 55MW,” the company said.
Unit 2, meanwhile, is expected to be back online in October.
“The cooling tower restoration works is still ongoing and is being carried out concurrently with the installation of a brand-new Toshiba steam turbine rotor unit and diaphragms,” the EDC said.
Earlier, EDC president and COO Richard Tantoco said the plants will contribute to the company’s second half revenues when the units return to service.
