Professorship for Geothermal Energy

The professorship is dedicated to the Faculty of Engineering and Surveying. The Technische Universität München and the German Research Centre for Geosciences admit themselves to excellence in research and teaching. The preferred candidates are excellent researchers with a high future research perspective and have their exploratory focus in the subject of geothermal systems and geothermal energy.

Possible research fields cover the investigation and characterization of geothermal energy sys- tems, their exploitation and production and the connected geomechanical, hydraulical and geochemical processes. The specific questions address geothermal exploration strategies involving structural geological and geophysical approaches as well as long-term management of regional fields across locations in experiment and numerical simulation.

To face the challenges concerning geothermal energy, energy efficiency and renewable energy, a close interdisciplinary cooperation with the Chairs of the Faculty of Engineering and Surveying at TUM is required. At GFZ Potsdam, the researcher will be integrated in the „International Centre for Geothermal Research“. The appointed person is designated to take over the leader- ship of the competence center „geothermal exploration“ at GFZ and it is expected from her or him to develop this area especially by attracting funding.

Successful candidates should demonstrate exceptional research abilities, experience in re- search management, teaching skills along with a strong commitment to teaching in their sub- ject area. The position also involves administrative responsibilities.

As part of the excellence initiative of the German federal and state governments, the Tech- nische Universität München and the German Research Centre for Geosciences have been pursuing the strategic goal of substantially increasing the proportion of women in research and education and thus explicitly encourages female scientists to apply for this position.
