Groundbreaking ceremony for 17 MW Dora 4 extension in Turkey
During the event, several participants emphasised the benefits of geothermal for Turkey, such as the reduction in CO2 emissions, the savings in the importation of gas from abroad and the huge potential that this industry has in the country.
Turkey has held an opening ceremony for the commissioning of Dora 4 which is scheduled for the end of 2015 and has an installed capacity of 17 MW.
Menderes Geothermal Power Generation Inc. ‘s goal for Dora-4 and Dora-5 projects and geothermal investments magnifies Turkey’s natural energy resources and ensures maximum benefit to that they want to achieve; a spokesman from the company said: “As you know, geothermal energy is domestic, clean, renewable and a sustainable source of energy. Our domestic resources need further evaluation. In this sense, as we value every one megawatt domestic resources.”
Speaking at the ceremony MB Holding Chairman Muharrem Balat, highlighted the positive effects that geothermal energy has, most notably the reductions of carbon emissions and the lower need for fossil carbon based fuels. Other participants in the ceremony expressed their commitment to geothermal. The idea is to further expand the breadth and scope of this industry and alleviate the impact that the import of gas and fuel for electricity has for the country’s economy due to currency exchange issues.
