The geothermal expansion plans of Ormat Technologies for its Casa Diablo IV geothermal power plant at Mammoth Lakes might face legal action from local water agency.

Local news inform that the Mammoth Community Water District (MCWD) which is the water utility company in Mono Country, California has concerns that the expansion of the Casa Diablo IV geothermal power plant might affect underground water reservoir and most specially the surface water. This concerns are aggravated due to a record draught that the region is suffering at the moment.

The same local source states that “Our Board’s decision to pursue a lawsuit against Great Basin and Ormat is in line with our top priority: the protection of our local water supply,” said Patrick Hayes, MCWD’s general manager. “Unfortunately, the environmental document certified by Great Basin for Casa Diablo IV was blatantly inadequate in its consideration of the project’s potential negative impacts on our water supply, an error that we cannot overlook, particularly during a record statewide drought.”
