CalEnergy signs new 37 MW PPA for Salton Sea geothermal plants

The Salt River Project will add 37 MW to the existing 50 MW in the area. The contract will start in 2016.

According to local news source, the Salt River project in the Salton Sea Area will expand a further 37 MW to the current 50 that are available.

This news source also states that “The geothermal power plants run by CalEnergy are in the Salton Sea area. The contracts begin in 2016 and increase over time until SRP will be receiving 87 megawatts from the company in 2020. That amount of power will be enough for nearly 22,000 homes at once. The contract runs to 2039.”

The Salt River Project aims to generate 20% of its electricity from renewable sources.
