CGI sees potential to build 110MW in Indonesia

The prospective area, near Mount Geureudong, Indonesia has already been surveyed by CGI and the firm is currently biding for an auction to exploit the area.

According to the press article, Chevron Geothermal Indonesia (CGI) is currently exploring a geothermal energy project in Mount Geureudong in Indonesia. As of today, CGI has submitted a proposal for an auction bid to the government as stated by Manager Policy Government and Public Affairs spokesperson from CGI, Ida Bagus Wibagsya, last Tuesday.

The same source reports that CGI did a preliminary survey at the site in 2013. Result, found approximately 110 MW of geothermal potential. Even tough the auction proposal has already been submitted, Ida Bagus stated that it is unknown if the geothermal area of Geureudong be auctioned this year.

Regarding the auctions for geothermal exploration, Director of Geothermal Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Tisnaldi, said the government will soon be auctioning 9 geothermal sections this year, one of them Lawu, which lies between East Java (Magetan) and Java Central (Karanganyar). However Tisnaldi did not mention specifically about the reminding eight areas.
