Exergy signs deal for 24 MW Umurlu ORC plant in Turkey

Exergy announces the signature of a contract to supply a 24 MW Organic Rankin Cycle power plant to Karadeniz Holding in Turkey. The project will be built in two 12 MW stages at the Umurlu geothermal field near Denizli, Turkey.

Announced this morning, Italian ORC provider Exergy has signed a contract to supply a 24 MW ORC plant to Karadeniz Holding.

The plant will be located in the Umurlu geothermal field near Denizli in Turkey. The contract, valued at more than $30 million, is a landmark project for Exergy. The company will supply its patented Radial Outflow Turbines in the largest output application to date.

The project will be delivered in two phases of 12 MW each, the first expecting to enter service in mid 2015. The project wil luse a 2-pressure ORC system, with air cooling to maximize net power production for Karadeniz.

Karadeniz Holding is a major player in the world of power generation, founded in 1984, the company has a reference capacity of more than 2,000 MW in power generation capacity. The Urmulu project is the Karadeniz’ first geothermal project and represents a significant part of its expansion strategy.
