Geologists conducting initial geothermal study in American Samoa

Funded by the U.S. Department of the Interior, a group of geologists currently conducts an initial study on Pacific island territory of American Samoa to establish its geothermal potential.
The island of American Samoa in the Pacific, northeast of Fiji is currently being visited by a group of scientists that are conducting studies on the geothermal potential of the territory, so Radio New Zealand today.
The Renewable Energy Committee of the Territory, decided to pursue geothermal and has now engaged geologists to conduct a preliminary survey that is to help establish if there is geothermal potential.
Funding for those studies comes from the U.S. Department of the Interior, which is responsible for the overseas territories of the United States. DOI provided a grant for the work of the scientists.
The territory expects first reports from the studies as soon as the group has finalized its testing.
