Geothermal as a possible alternative to dam in Site C in Canada
CanGEA reflects on the outcome of the conclusion from the report from Site C, detailing that geothermal energy is a viable and beneficial alternative to the proposed dam.
According to a press release from CanGEA, Site C which is currently under revision. This site has been studied to create a mega-dam project in order to generate electricity. The creation of such dam would have a significant impact in the environment. Considering this, the press release suggests that geothermal is an effective alternative that should be studied.
These conclusion come from a report that, as stated in the press release, “The Panel concludes that a failure to pursue research over the last 30 years into B.C.’s geothermal resources has left BC Hydro without information about a resource that BC Hydro thinks may offer up to 700 megawatts of firm, economic power with low environmental costs.”
