The government of New South Wales in Australia has lodged exploration applications to do some initial exploration and hopes to make the data of these studies available to companies to develop projects in the state.
The New South Wales government in Australia has “lodged geothermal exploration applications at Wilcannia, Pooncarie and Cobar.”, so local news.
Geothermal development in the region could supplement coal or gas fired power stations and the government plans to support development by collecting data that is to be made available for companies.
The government will do some initial studies to get a better understanding of the geology and the potential, that could then help attract companies to pursue exploration activities in these areas. The indications from surface studies and satellite imaging highlight that there is some potential.
The areas looked at now, are also of interest for the NSW government’s carbon capture and storage program.
