There now only three weeks to go until the largest global geothermal energy event this year, the GRC Annual Meeting and the GEA Geothermal Energy Expo, taking place October 23-26, 2011 at the Town & Country Resort in San Diego, California.

The Geothermal Resources Council Annual Meeting to take place October 23-26, 2011, at the Town & Country Resort in San Diego, California, will be again bringing together all major players of the industry, service providers, developers, scientists, technology providers, financial players and many many more. In conjunction with the GRC Annual Meeting, the U.S. Geothermal Energy Association will also hold its Annual Geothermal Energy Expo, a large trade show with more than 150 exhibitors from all over the world.

“With the capability of delivering energy 24/7, independent of weather conditions, geothermal energy is the preferred green energy source of utility companies that serve the end user,” said Curt Robinson, Executive Director. “It stands to reason that an investment in a green energy source that can generate energy around the clock without constraints will also generate profit without limits.”

“With the vast majority of the geothermal resources in the U. S. and the world undeveloped and waiting to be mined, there is much opportunity for anyone who wants a bright future in this industry,” concluded Robinson.

In the United States, Europe, Australia and Asia, governments are offering a number of tax incentives to spur renewable energy development to help protect the environment. Load-serving entities responsible for delivering power to energy users are scrambling to meet renewable energy mandates.

Worldwide, geothermal energy supplies 10.7 gigawatts (10,700 megawatts) of energy to 25 countries on six continents. The U. S. leads in installed geothermal capacity with over 3,000 megawatt s (MW). Much of the geothermal resources in the U.S. are concentrated in California with over 2,500 MW of capacity online and more slated for development to help meet the Golden State’s aggressive renewable energy portfolio standard.

Regions rich in geothermal resources are competing to attract geothermal development due to the benefits geothermal offers as a business and as an energy producer. Geothermal energy companies make considerable contributions to the regions in which they locate their facilities. A 50-MW plant is capable of creating 860 well-paying jobs (from start-up to operation), contributing millions of dollars to the local, state and federal coffers through taxes and generating business opportunities for investors and the nearby business communities, geothermal power plants are a welcome business for providential regions.

One area abounding with geothermal resources is Imperial Valley, California: “With 17 plants producing nearly 600 MW of energy, the geothermal industry in Imperial County has created several hundred good-paying, full-timejobs for our residents. In addition to those direct jobs, geothermal activity here supports a large number of ancillary businesses that provide goods and services to those facilities on a year-round basis, amounting to many more indirect jobs and millions of more dollars pumped into our local economy,” touted Andy Horne, Deputy Executive Officer of Natural Resources Development for the County of Imperial.

“Taken together, the geothermal industry is also the largest property tax payer in our county. With the tremendous proven geothermal resources here, we hope to greatly expand this sector of our economic base in the coming years,” concluded Horne,”

Individuals interested in attending the GRC Annual Meeting may now register online at www.geothermal.org or call +1 (530) 758-2360.

Now in its 35th year, the GRC Annual Meeting was created for the leading voices and minds of the geothermal industry from every corner of the globe. The meeting is designed to encourage networking, business and educational opportunities for all attendees through an interesting and entertaining event.
