IGA obtains UN Special Consultative Status
The International Geothermal Association (IGA) has been granted UN special consultative status.
In April 2015 the IGA was granted the UN Special Consultative Status. The consultative status enables the IGA to actively engage with the United Nations Secretariat programs, funds and agencies in a number of ways.
Certain privileges, benefits and expectations are associated with the status. This includes IGA participation in the work of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), with member states and the UN system at large.
The IGA can also submit and circulate written statements to the Council and the UN and bring in its expert advice on geothermal energy technologies, regions/ countries. Also, designated official representatives can be sent to the United Nations Headquarters and other UN offices. Additional input includes consultations with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies and oral presentations.
To find out more check the ECOSOC website: www.un.org/ecosoc/ngo.
If you have any suggestions how the IGA shall interact with the UN bodies – or if you hear about exciting UN news on geothermal energy, kindly let IGA know.
