Renewables are getting a larger share of the mix with solar power taking the lion's share for growth since last year

In Italy, renewables are slowly taking a larger slice of the energy production pie. According to the country’s grid operator Terna SpA, in April 2015, the net national production (20.7 billion kWh) dropped by 3.1% compared to January April 2014. Thermal (+4.3%), geothermal (+7.1%) and photovoltaic (+20.8%) energy production increased, while hydroelectric (-31.2%) and wind power (-0.3%) production both decreased.

This is good news specially considering the tighter limitations being imposed on the EU on fossil fuels and the ambitious targets for renewable energy.
