The 2nd annual GeoPower Africa Week will take place this year July 14-15, 2014 in Nairobi, Kenya. Bringing together industry representatives, the event will cover development and activities throughout the East Africa region.

More than just small talk, the event will shine the spotlight on the Kenyan geothermal development model.
With learned project experience forming the basis for discussion, the congress and training course focus on expanding this market through sharing of hard-earned industry experience.
East Africa is fast establishing itself as a world leader in sustainable energy development, with Kenya already surging ahead as one of the top 10 geothermal producers in the world. Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda are now following suit with significant progress being made in early-stage project development. With limited regional experience, Kenya serves as a shining example of the potential for development in the region.
The GeoPower Africa congress takes a critical look at the Kenyan model of geothermal development and application of best practice to other countries in the region. Specifically, GeoPower Africa prioritises sharing industry knowledge to drive further commercial involvement.
Projects from across the region are now taking centre stage as the focus of international interest, particularly as a number of these are now moving into tendering. This provides opportunities for involvement from across the supply chain for tenders worth millions of dollars. Individual case studies on the Longonot, Suswa, Ngozi and Katwe geothermal projects highlight specific project information and tender timelines. In compliment, representatives from leading financial players, including OPIC, KfW, Power Africa (USAID), Standard Chartered and the African Union Commission, showcase investment opportunities and unique financing vehicles.
As an added feature of this year’s congress, delegates have the opportunity to visit an operational geothermal prospect in one of the oldest and richest geothermal fields in Kenya, namely Olkaria.
