New geothermal bill in California requires private utilities to source geothermal

The California Senate Bill 1139 was approved by a vote of 21-11 on Wednesday to procure up to 500 MW of geothermal energy by 2024.

As previously reported by ThinkGeo Energy, the California Senate Bill 1139 was approved by a vote of 21-11 on Wednesday without any surprises and will require public utilities to acquire geothermal power up to 500 MW by 2024 in order to diversify the renewables portfolio of the region.
