Plans for geothermal project in German Saxonia

The German state of Saxonia is exploring the possibility of a joint pilot project for geothermal power generation with the Federal Ministry for the Environment of Germany.
Reported already in November, the German state of Saxonia is looking into the possibility of utilizing geothermal energy for power production and supports work on a power project.
The project is intended to also serve as a pilot project by the Federal Ministry for the Environment of Germany.
Initial studies done in three regions of the state (Aue, Freiberg and the valley of the Elbe river) have been presented at a recent conference, so the responsible authority.
With a positive signal from the German capital, the concrete planning steps can be taken. It is estimated that a depth of 5,000m need to be drilled to utilize resources for heat and power generation.
