The Cheshire East Borough Council is looking for engineering companies in order to assess the viability of exploiting geothermal energy.

The news source details that the council has been investigating the potential for geothermal energy for several years and that last February received a £200,000 grant from the Department for Energy & Climate Change for further feasibility studies in the Leighton area of Crewe.

The council has now published a contract notice seeking “an appropriately experienced and driven company to help us achieve our aspirations and deliver this exciting and innovative project”.

The contract notice calls for a geothermal delivery partner to provide technical design services, including architecture, engineering, urban planning and scientific analysis according to the new piece. The capital value of the initial project is estimated at £30m for the time being.
