Take a video tour of Te Mihi, and hear Dr. Mike Dunstall, Contact’s General Manager Geothermal Development talk about its development, the benefits it brings and its role in geothermal energy in New Zealand.
Contact Energy’s 166MW Te Mihi geothermal power station, commissioned in 2014, is located on the Wair?kei steamfield in the Taup? region of New Zealand.
Designed to maximise generation efficiency and minimise the cost of each megawatt of electricity produced, it uses the latest steam turbine technology to reduce its impact on the local environment and is the newest member of Contact’s family of power stations.

Contact is a sponsor of the 2015 World Geothermal Congress in Melbourne during 20-24 April. Dr Mike Dunstall is attending the Congress with members of the Contact team who are presenting a range of technical papers at the event. Topics include the future of geothermal energy, Te Mihi steamfield production design, broaching, comparing borehole televiewer logs with continuous core, maintaining geothermal turbines and the seismic monitoring of the Wairakei Field. Contact will also be represented in the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise exhibit stand in the foyer of the congress.
